Internet Provider Virgin Media UK is publicising its superfast broadband internet access by working with an acclaimed food artist, Prudence Staite, to create the world’s first billboard made entirely of cheese.

The new advertising campaign also features Speedy Gonzales, a fast running cartoon character that is also known as “The Fastest Mouse in all Mexico”.

In 1999 the Cartoon Network banned Speedy Gonzales due to issues of racism stemming from bad “ethnic stereotypes”.

Ashley Stockwell, Virgin Media’s Executive Director of Marketing, said: ”Speedy is the perfect celebrity partner and brings real charm and enthusiasm to our campaign. As the fastest broadband provider in all of the UK, delivering real world speeds of 10Mb, 20Mb, 50Mb and soon, 100Mb, it’s great to be teaming up with the fastest Looney Tunes character around.

“Speedy is a great short cut to communicating the entire stand out benefits of superfast broadband and will help us stay several steps ahead of the competition.”

Broadband provider Virgin’s campaign will also be joined by a new TV advert featuring the popular cartoon mouse, which will air this Saturday during X Factor and run on prime time television until 10th December 2010.
